Japanese art expo opens

A TRAVELLING exhibition from Japan, Sharaku: Interpreted by Japan’s Contemporary Artists’ has been inaugurated at the Youth Creative Art Centre. The exhibition that runs until March 23, is being held under the patronage of the secretary general of the Youth General Authority, Nasser Mubarak al-Ali and is jointly organised by the Japanese embassy, Youth Creative Art Centre and the Japan Foundation. Japanese Ambassador Yukio Kitazume and Nasser Mubarak al-Ali and other officials were present at the opening ceremony. ‘Sharaku’ takes its name from the Japanese artist Toshusai Sharaku, known throughout the world for his bust portraits of ‘kabuki’ actors (Kabuki is a form of traditional Japanese theatre), through paintings, posters and three-dimensional works. The travel exhibition features free interpretation of Sharaku by modern-day artists. The exhibition is made of three sections: Reproduction of Sharaku, Sharaku in Graphic Art and Homage to Sharaku.The show is open to all and the visiting hours are: 9am – 12 noon and 5pm-8pm- Sunday to Thursday. The Youth Creative Art Centre is located on Ali Bin Ali Talib Street, opposite Omar Bin Khattab Health Centre. The centre is closed on Fridays and Saturdays.
